Baseball player Miguel Cabrera was arrested in the late hours of yesterday because he was driving while under the influence of alcohol, according to Florida police. It seems that alcohol problems continue to Cabrera.
The 26 year old slugger was arrested 11 miles southeast of Lakeland, where the Tigers train during spring. Cabrera wasn’t supposed to start training along other position players until Saturday. Police found Cabrera in a car with a smoking engine near Fort Piece and when they approached he had evident signs of being drunk, this was confirmed when he took a swig from a bottle of Scotch. To make matters worse, Cabrera didn’t cooperate.
Teammate Carlos Guillen said: “It’s hard, He’s a really good friend. I know he was working hard in the winter to have a good season this year.”
According to the report filed by the police Cabrera kept saying: “Do you know who I am? You don’t know anything about my problems,” while resisting arrest. He also refused to take a breath alcohol test.
Cabrera was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest without violence. He was released early today after posting $1,350 bond.
Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski picked up Cabrera after the incident. No comments from his part.
